Target group(s)

Educational professionals

Booty workouts, gymbros, hot tub streams and alpha males - if you look at social media from a gender-reflective perspective, it quickly becomes clear that gender and the associated social ideas are omnipresent in social media. On the one hand, it is primarily traditional ideas of gender that are presented. Sexualized violence and queer hostility are widespread phenomena. On the other hand, social media also offers the opportunity for empowerment, exchange and community building.

In this online seminar, participants will first receive an overview of the basics of gender-equitable pedagogy and concepts of gender diversity. This will be followed by an examination of the role gender plays in the use of social media and how the various social media apps influence young people's perception of gender.

It will also focus on how educational professionals can work with young people on these topics and what opportunities social media opens up here.
