Sexuality plays a major role for young people - also in the digital world: They flirt online, exchange erotic pictures, find out about sex and perhaps watch porn. The Internet offers many opportunities to explore the topic of sexuality and thus work on adolescent developmental tasks. But at the same time, it also offers content that is inappropriate for the age group, mediatized sexualized violence, and violations of boundaries that can lead to social and psychological problems. Sometimes sexualized content can have such a strong pull that it can lead to addiction.
The 17th Media Addiction Symposium in Bremen will examine the topic of "Sexuality in Digital Environments" and take a look at possible consequences as well as legal aspects. The aim is to sensitize schools, youth work and support systems to the potential and challenges of the topic and to highlight options for action.
Three lectures with discussion rounds will present scientific, therapeutic and preventive perspectives. In the afternoon, media and sexual education approaches will be taught in workshops. Birgit Kimmel and Stefanie Rack from klicksafe will offer the workshop "Let's talk about Porn". Projects from the pedagogical handout will be presented, which will be completely revised and reissued at the beginning of 2024.
The symposium is organized by the ServiceBureau Jugendinformation and the Landesinstitut für Schule (Department of Health and Addiction Prevention). Participation costs 70 euros. Click here for the program and registration.
