Today, images and videos of children and young people are quickly posted and shared on WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok. Often without their knowledge or consent. These can be family moments that are shared carelessly by parents or other family members. But it can also be the forwarding of intimate images between peers or the targeted distribution of illegal, sexualized content. The use of artificial intelligence makes it even easier for perpetrators to manipulate seemingly harmless images and use them for their abusive purposes. What is initially considered private can quickly be shared uncontrollably and cause long-term harm to adolescents. The consequences for those affected can be serious - personally, socially and legally.

Why is the digital sharing of children's photos and videos particularly sensitive from a legal perspective? And what can happen to supposedly harmless images that are shared publicly online? What role does AI play in this? How can children and young people be protected and what support options are available?

On the occasion of the campaign #KindersindkeinContent campaign, the partners of the German Safer Internet Center invite parents, educational professionals and other interested parties to a webinar on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.

Experts fromjugendschutz.net,eco, FSM,Nummer gegen Kummer e.V.and klicksafe will provide an overview of current developments and highlight (legal) challenges. In addition, specific recommendations and support options for parents, educators, professionals and institutions are presented.

The webinar focuses on the following topics:

  • Images and videos of children and young people online ("sharenting")
  • Sexualized images and AI-generated content
  • Unauthorized sharing of intimate images

During the event, there will also be the opportunity to ask questions in the chat. The event will take place online via GoTo Webinar and participation is free of charge.

About the Safer Internet DE network

The European Union's Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) supports Safer Internet Centres in 27 European countries with the aim of promoting media literacy among children, parents and teachers, raising awareness of potential risks on the Internet and offering children and young people advice on online problems. Complaints offices for illegal online content are also made available. In Germany, the Safer Internet Centre is implemented by the Safer Internet DE association. In addition to the complaints offices of eco, FSM and jugendschutz.net, this includes the klicksafe awareness center and the counseling services of Nummer gegen Kummer e.V..
