Deep Fake. Deep Impact. How young people recognize deepfakes and learn to critically question their consequences.
Deepfakes can be impressive, entertaining and funny. And also a helpful tool that can be used, for example, to lower barriers and promote participation. On the other hand, the technology is also being misused. For example, AI can be used to generate media content that supposedly shows people naked or performing sexual acts. Deepfakes are also frequently discussed in the context of political disinformation.
Young people come into contact with AI-generated or AI-manipulated content on social media. However, it is not always easy to recognize them at first glance. Or to understand the motives and intentions behind it. The aim of the klicksafe webinar is to provide teachers, parents and interested parties with basic factual information and to sensitize and educate them on the topic of "deepfakes". Among other things, it is about what deepfakes are, how they are created and what forms they take. It will be shown how deepfakes can be used sensibly, but also what dangers they pose. Participants will receive valuable tips and information on how to support young people in better recognizing deepfakes and critically questioning their consequences.
The online event is taking place as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Media Literacy Week 2025. The campaign week is an initiative of the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Rhineland-Palatinate Media Authority and is supported by klicksafe, among others. Media Literacy Week will take place from June 2 to 8 under the motto "No Likes for Lies". All information on Media Literacy Week can be found at: www.wmk-rlp.de.
