Play another game, quickly watch a reel or check a message - and before you know it, hours have passed again.

What is usually entertaining can become a digital maelstrom for some children and young people. Social networks, games and streaming portals cast a spell over young people - often to such an extent that analog leisure activities and social contacts fade into the background. Many adults are also familiar with this: a quick glance at your smartphone and you're already lost in the depths of social media.

When does media use become too much and when is it an addiction? What can we do to prevent it and when do adults need to intervene?

In this event,Pamela Heer, media educator at the EU initiative klicksafe, classifies terms and the subject area, identifies addictive properties of digital media, provides orientation and practical tips - and provides information on who parents, guardians and educational professionals can turn to if excessive media use makes them ill.

The event is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

No fees will be charged for participation in the specialist event.
