To mark International Press Freedom Day on May 3, school classes will have the opportunity to explore topics related to press freedom between April 30 and May 6, 2025. During the #PressFreedomPowerSchool action days, pupils will enter into a dialog with media experts and journalists in interactive workshops. Current challenges such as disinformation, credibility in journalism and obtaining political information via social media will be discussed together.
The offer is aimed at pupils from 8th to 11th grade. Participation is free of charge. The workshops last 90 minutes each and are offered in two slots, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The events start at 09:30. The events end at around 14:00. Teachers can register their class until March 31, 2025 for the event. Each registration is valid for one class including the supervising teacher. As the workshops have limited capacity, students will be allocated by lottery on the day of the event.
klicksafe will also be represented at the event on May 6 with the presentation "Don't believe everything you see and hear! Critically questioning content and recognizing deepfakes."
Information about the presentation:
Young people come into contact with generative AI online in all kinds of contexts. Also with so-called "deepfakes". The workshop aims to give an insight into what deepfakes are, how they are created and what forms they take. Together we will test whether deepfakes can be recognized and on the basis of which criteria. We will also take a close look at the challenges and dangers associated with deepfake technologies and discuss how we can counter them.
Further information and registration details can be found on the website of Medienanstalt Rheinland-Pfalz.
