Young people and their developmental tasks are once again moving more into the public eye. However, the findings are worrying. Various studies have found that an increasing proportion of the young generation in Germany are pessimistic about the future (see Trend Study Youth in Germany 2024), that there are signs of isolation (see 19th Shell Youth Study) and that the frequency of mental health problems has risen enormously in recent years (see COPSY Study 2024).

This situation must be of particular concern to child and youth welfare and child protection services. After all, this is precisely where young people expect stable and trusting relationships and support. This is where the 15th Child Protection Forum of the Child Protection Centers comes in. We would like to take stock of the situation and ask:

  • What challenges are young people facing today and how do they deal with social destabilization and uncertainty?
  • Which (new) dangers and risks are particularly relevant for young people growing up?
  • And what consequences does this have for child and youth welfare professionals and institutions?

Can we keep pace with the dynamic developments in living environments, with the increasing heterogeneity of social backgrounds and ways in which young people develop their personalities, and with new digital problems? Or have we lost touch?

klicksafe will take part in Forum 1 on the first day of the event on the topic of  "Media phenomena and trends that are harmful to young people: understanding risk factors and shaping support".
