Between facts and feelings: Political media literacy in the digital age

online lecture (Online)

Monday, 10th of February 2025
17:00-18:00

The topic is particularly important in the run-up to the 2025 federal elections: reflected media use and a conscious approach to information and emotions are important in order to be able to make well-considered political decisions.

Learn from communication scientist Dr. Dorothée Hefner (Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media) how political media literacy can provide orientation in an increasingly complex media world.

Dr. Hefner will begin by shedding light on the connections between media use and information literacy, thereby clarifying what constitutes political media literacy. Particular attention will be paid to the role of emotions, which are also a key driver of our actions when dealing with the media. Finally, we will discuss why media literacy is not based solely on knowledge and cognitive skills, but also requires a reflective approach to emotions as a basis.

Take the opportunity to gain exciting insights into and discuss the interface between media use, information literacy and emotional intelligence.
