Watch out for fake news! News literacy & Promoting democracy at school

Workshop (Online)

Tuesday, 25th of February 2025
15.00-16.30

"But I saw that on TikTok!!!" The information behavior of children and young people is increasingly changing. They obtain information via the internet and social media. This does not necessarily have to be bad, but they do not only encounter high-quality information in the flood of information. Disinformation has long been part of digital and analog reality.

We want to counter this! In the "Beware of fake news!" workshop, we will look at how young people use the media and the phenomenon of disinformation. We will offer ways of dealing with this and concrete approaches on how you as a teacher can strengthen your students' news literacy. Participants also receive free access to digital, media education tools that are perfectly prepared for two double lessons and can be used directly in the classroom.

About codetekt e.V.:
Codetekt is a non-profit organization with the aim of curbing disinformation and promoting a resilient democracy. To this end, we promote media and news literacy through our specially developed "trust-checking approach", which enables everyone to quickly and easily assess the trustworthiness of news. With a team of full-time employees and volunteers, we offer workshops for schools and companies, carry out educational work on social media, develop digital tools to identify false information, build a community against disinformation and design projects that promote democracy. In joint projects, such as the faktenstark initiative and #UseTheNews, we cooperate with other stakeholders such as the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and the Bertelsmann Foundation to promote a resilient democracy.
