On February 11, 2025 - the international day for more security on the net - we are participating
with a SID topic block from 6 to 8 p.m. in the program of the Offener Kanal Merseburg-
Querfurt e.V. with two highlights!
6 pm starts "Fake Crime - the media podcast - red light - green light"
In our video podcast on the occasion of Safer Internet Day, we dive into the digital world and
highlight opportunities and risks in dealing with social media. Disclaimer: The
story presented is fictitious and was written with the support of ChatGPT. We - the
youth media protection team of the district of Saalekreis, which deals with media literacy and digital
safety - would like to educate and provide assistance.
After an exciting fake crime intro, we start with Safer Internet Day as a
starting point and gradually analyze our staged story, which addresses various
online risks. We talk about Squid Game and its influence on young
users, the dangers of accepting strangers on Snapchat and the risks of
location sharing on social media.
Another focus is on peer pressure and peer pressure, which often tempts young people into ill-considered
actions. We also provide information about image rights and the rapid distribution of content
online. We also shed light on other dangers on Snapchat and explain what you can do
if something does happen - from reporting and help centers to legal
options for cyberbullying or violations of personal rights.
The aim of the team of experts is to educate, raise awareness and provide young people and
adults with valuable tips on how to be safer online.
BVBM and GMK then launch the nationwide broadcast of the interview series
"On the Red Sofa" for Safer Internet Day
For this year's Safer Internet Day on February 11, 2025, the Federal Association
Bürgermedien e.V. (BVBM) and the Gesellschaft für Medienpädagogik und Kommunikationskultur
e.V. (GMK) are presenting the nationwide broadcast of the interview series "On the Red Sofa" on
citizens' stations, open channels and on the GMK YouTube channel.
The series was created as part of the GMK's annual conference, the Forum Kommunikationskultur, the 41st edition of which took place in Rostock at
2024. Under the motto "Between art and
artificiality - shaping transformation through cultural and political media education"
, ten renowned media experts and media educators discussed current topics
such as media education, media pedagogy and digital communication culture.
The interviews were moderated by journalist Lene Schargitz and recorded by the team from Mediatop
Rostock, the citizens' radio station and media competence center of the Mecklenburg-
Vorpommern media authority.
"With this initiative, we want to show how important media education, media pedagogy and the
competent use of media are for a vibrant democracy. By broadcasting the
interview series 'On the Red Sofa' in the community media, we reach people directly at
and encourage them to actively and critically help shape the digital world," says Fred Bärbock,
Chairman of the Federal Association of Community Media (BVBM).
The "Red Sofa" is an important part of the GMK's annual conference, which is regarded as the central platform
for media education topics. The GMK, Germany's largest professional association for
media education and media literacy and a network of experts from education, culture and
media, celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024, as did the BVBM. Together with the
Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), it awards the Dieter Baacke Prize
for outstanding media education projects.
The interview series is produced in cooperation with the Federal Association of Citizen Media (BVBM) and
with the support of the Directors' Conference of the State Media Authorities (DLM).
The BVBM is committed to the further development of community media throughout Germany, which are indispensable for
regional and local diversity of information and opinion, the teaching of media skills
and local democratic participation. BVBM also supports
international democracy projects for the development of independent journalism and free
media education.
