Mark Zuckerberg has said that content on Instagram, Facebook and Threads will be less controlled. This means that the team that checks facts will be abolished. The rules for the community are also changing. The filters that help us avoid bad content are becoming looser. This allows fake news to spread more quickly.
This has consequences for diversity in social media: homophobic, sexist, xenophobic and other derogatory comments are less strictly scrutinized. If Meta relaxes the rules, attacks on people because of their gender or sexual orientation may increase. This can lead to many people no longer expressing themselves, while the "gobblers" remain active.
Together, we want to consider what these changes mean for us and how we can continue to be courageous and safe online.
Come along and bring your friends! Let's learn together how we can deal better with information on the internet.
