For years, hardly anyone has been able to avoid Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X. Social media has become a fundamental part of our society. We are experiencing a fundamental upheaval in the way politics, business, the media and each individual communicates. The problem is that only a handful of companies decide the rules of the game for how this communication works - often neither for the benefit of users nor the common good. The latest developments in the USA have underlined this: the CEOs of the most important communication platforms support Donald Trump and are critical of government regulation of their products. What consequences does this have for the platforms themselves, their content and how we deal with it? And how can our civil society take a responsible and critical approach to social media, especially in politically polarized times? Martin Fehrensen, founder and author of the Social Media Watchblog, will talk about this and the current state of social media in this online event.

This event is being held in cooperation with the Rhineland-Palatinate Media Authority and with the kind support of the Federal Foreign Office.
