Almost every day, we are all confronted with fake news, including schoolchildren, especially on social media. On 11.02.2025, this year's Safer Internet Day, the KOMEZ Köln (Kommunales Medienzentrum der Stadt Köln) is offering a hybrid workshop from 13:30 - 16:30 for all teachers and pedagogical specialists from secondary I and secondary II schools in Cologne.
The workshop takes place in cooperation with Coding For Tomorrow.
Learn more about the connection between fake news, algorithms and social media.
In this introductory workshop, we explain the motivation of fake news creators and why they can spread so quickly through us and the algorithms of social media. We will show you strategies for debunking fake news and try them out together in practice. You will learn how photos are deliberately edited for fake news or used in the wrong contexts. We will then show you how the topic can be addressed with pupils.
Registration: You can register by sending an email to medienzentrum@stadt-koeln.de. In addition to your school number and school, please indicate whether you would like to participate on site at KOMEZ Cologne or online.
Participation is possible both on site at the KOMEZ Cologne and online. The link to the video conference will be provided by KOMEZ Köln after confirmation of registration.
