Manipulative content that spreads at lightning speed via social media is no longer a marginal phenomenon. Targeted strategies are used to spread disinformation - to sow mistrust, promote social division or influence political decisions. But why do people or groups do this in the first place? What are the motives behind it? Particularly in the run-up to the upcoming elections, it is crucial to see through and understand these mechanisms. Our event shows young people which strategies are used to spread the word, what the driving forces behind them are and how they can arm themselves against them. Our aim is to sensitize young people to the potential consequences of disinformation and give them practical approaches to actively combat it. Moderator Anna Albrecht, social media presenter for Tagesschau, will lead through the event and discuss the importance of disinformation on the internet with experts from the fields of social media, politics and media education.

In addition to surveys and Q&A sessions, participants will also be asked to take part in interactive group work: they will analyze examples of disinformation, understand the strategies behind it and develop approaches together on how to counter manipulative content. Finally, a fishbowl discussion offers the opportunity to talk directly to the experts, ask questions and contribute their own opinions.
