Target group(s)

Teachers
Managers, specialists and teachers from primary and secondary schools as well as from extracurricular educational and cultural institutions

Attempts at fraud via deepfakes, manipulated election results using social media algorithms and the end of fact checks on platforms such as Facebook and X show us more than ever that disinformation is omnipresent. Pupils are directly affected by this as soon as they use their own smartphone. Teaching media skills is therefore a central, interdisciplinary task for schools. A central component of promoting media literacy is the "Informing and researching" competence area of the NRW media literacy framework. Pupils should learn to search for information in a targeted and critical manner, evaluate it and handle sources responsibly.

This practice-oriented workshop specifically addresses this area of competence and provides in-depth knowledge about the origins and mechanisms of false reports and their impact on democracy. You will learn to differentiate between misinformation and targeted disinformation and learn methods for analyzing and debunking fake news.
In addition to theoretical basics, we will work together on practical exercises for the classroom, including strategies for decontextualization, image manipulation and source checking. We will also look at the connection between fake news and the crisis of confidence in the media.

With the help of the event, you can sensitize your students to disinformation and enable them to critically question content. Prepare yourself for the challenges of the digital world and strengthen your news skills and those of your students.
