Many false reports and deepfakes are spread on social media - especially before elections - in order to influence voters and create an atmosphere against political opponents. In this free digital info snack, we present teachers with 45 minutes of compact information, new teaching ideas and other digital offers on the topic of "disinformation and deepfakes" and provide answers to the following questions, among others:
How can teachers also address disinformation and deepfakes in the classroom before the new elections?
What is "prebunking" and "debunking" and to what extent can these strategies be helpful for successfully teaching media literacy?
Which ideas are suitable for elementary school and which for secondary schools?
On the occasion of the new elections to the German Bundestag, it is extremely important to address disinformation and deepfakes and to teach sound media skills. Our offer is also explicitly aimed at teachers who would like to address the topic outside of social science lessons due to current events.
You will also learn about the digital support available and the new pool of materials in the NRW media literacy framework. All the teaching ideas and digital offers presented are linked to the appropriate pillars of the NRW media literacy framework.
The NRW media liter acy framework is the fundamental document for systematic media literacy education in North Rhine-Westphalia. It aims to provide all children and young people with comprehensive media skills by the end of their school years and to enable them to use media safely, creatively and responsibly.
The support services for the NRW media literacy framework were expanded in November 2024. Teachers and educational professionals now have access to an expanded searchable material pool with learning resources in line with the NRW media literacy framework. Thanks to numerous filter options and an improved presentation, teachers can find specific teaching ideas to promote media literacy.
The NRW Media Competence Framework is supported by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia, the NRW Media Authority, the Rhineland Regional Association, the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association and the NRW Media Advisory Service.
