Press releases on Safer Internet Day 2025
Video statement on Safer Internet Day 2025
Lisa Paus - Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth

"As Federal Youth Minister, I am doing everything I can to ensure that young people in particular are better protected against misinformation and learn to protect themselves. And that means learning to deal with the media competently, to remain critical and to rely on facts instead of fakes. This strengthens our democracy. And this is exactly what Safer Internet Day is committed to - every year. With events and campaigns worldwide. I would like to thank the klicksafe initiative for organizing this day in Germany and wish everyone involved every success for their projects and events surrounding Safer Internet Day."
Materials for Safer Internet Day 2025
For educational practice: Right. Extreme. Online.
This teaching material provides teachers and educational professionals with information on the current situation of right-wing extremist online propaganda as well as on anti-human and anti-democratic actors and their communication strategies. It also provides tips and assistance for dealing with key topics in the school context. The six teaching units enable young people to recognize right-wing extremist propaganda and to deal with the challenges of right-wing extremist narratives online in a critical and self-determined way.
For young people: Info cards and Actionbound
With the info cards for our "No likes for lies!" campaign, you can educate young people about right-wing extremist hatred, hate speech and disinformation at a low-threshold level. The info cards cover the topics "Emojis hijacked by right-wing extremists", "Digital civil courage against right-wing extremism" and "Dealing with (deep) fakes". The postcard format provides young people with compact information, tips and references to further information and support services.
In the Actionbound game "#cleanyournetwork - Bootcamp against right-wing extremist hate and for democracy on social media" by klicksafe, young people learn how to expose right-wing extremist online strategies and take a stand against them. Which topics are typical for right-wing extremists? Which emojis, codes and memes do they use? And how do they try to manipulate young people's opinions on the internet and especially on social media?
For parents and guardians: Right-wing extremist online strategies
In our brochure, parents can find out what forms of right-wing extremist propaganda young people can come across online. It also gives them tips on how to empower their children against right-wing extremist hate speech. And they find out which reporting and advice centers are available in Germany.
Expert talk on the topic of "Preventing extremism"
In the klicksafe expert talk on the topic of "Preventing extremism" we talk to the psychologist and extremism expert Ahmad Mansour. In his youth, the Palestinian-Arab Israeli experienced a phase of radicalization himself and belonged to an Islamist group. After experiencing an attack, he moved to Germany in 2004 and has been involved in the prevention of extremism for many years. In 2017, he founded "MIND Prevention", the Mansour Initiative for the Promotion of Democracy and Prevention of Extremism.
Expert talk on the topic of "Deepfakes and extremism"
The use of generative AI tools now makes it very easy to create fake images, videos or audio recordings of people - so-called deepfakes. Deepfakes can be particularly dangerous if they are created and distributed by extremist groups for the purpose of targeted disinformation. For example, to create a political mood. In the new klicksafe expert talk on the topic of "Deepfakes and extremism", we talk about this with Dr. Bernd Zywietz. He is head of the Political Extremism department at jugendschutz.net.
