Expert talk "Preventing extremism"

In the klicksafe expert talk on the topic of "Preventing extremism" , we talk to the psychologist and extremism expert Ahmad Mansour. In his youth, the Palestinian-Arab Israeli experienced a phase of radicalization himself and belonged to an Islamist group. After experiencing an attack, he moved to Germany in 2004 and has been involved in the prevention of extremism for many years. In 2017, he founded "MIND  Prevention", the Mansour Initiative for the Promotion of Democracy and Prevention of Extremism.

The klicksafe expert talk on the topic of "Preventing extremism" is part of the klicksafe campaign "No Likes for Lies" for Safer Internet Day 2025. The campaign focuses on empowering young people to recognize extremism, populism and deepfakes online in good time and to be able to deal with them.

Islamism, right-wing extremism, left-wing extremism - Ahmad Mansour is a psychologist and extremism researcher and deals with different forms of extremism in addition to prevention work. In his work, Ahmad Mansour repeatedly addresses the question of the influence of the internet and social media on extremist developments. It is particularly problematic that it is very easy to spread disinformation online and use algorithms to lure people into bubbles in which extremist content can be disseminated.

It is very easy for populists and extremists to reach many people on the internet. Extremism expert Ahmad Mansour therefore argues that in future, prevention of extremism must increasingly take place where radicalization begins, i.e. primarily on social media.
