Digital lesson for Safer Internet Day
February 11, 2025 is Safer Internet Day (SID). Hundreds of schools, associations and other institutions across Germany are taking part. In Germany, SID is coordinated by the EU initiative klicksafe. Under the motto "No likes for lies! Recognize extremism, populism and deepfakes online", klicksafe invites all pupils in grades 8 to 10 across Germany to take part in a digital school lesson.
What can the school classes expect?
On February 11 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. , students will learn about the online strategies of right-wing extremist actors and experience the effects of disinformation on individuals and society in an activating and practical way. Experts in media education and youth media protection from klicksafe and jugendschutz.net provide young people with up-to-date knowledge and important background information. Current case studies encourage the pupils to reflect. Interactive live polls and the opportunity to ask questions in advance or via moderated chat allow participants to take an active part in the event. In addition, all participants are challenged in two group work phases and develop digital moral courage to deal confidently with misanthropic information online. This creates a varied learning process that strengthens knowledge and action skills in equal measure.
The digital school lesson is a campaign of the German Safer Internet Center.
Cooperation partner: Die Rheinpfalz

Frequently asked questions
To participate in the livestream, a presentation surface (e.g. projector or smartboard) and an internet connection are required to follow the digital lesson in class. For the interactive surveys, it is recommended that all students have a mobile device. However, this is not a prerequisite for participation in the event.
The Digital School Hour will be broadcast live on February 11, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and is therefore not flexible in terms of time.
The digital school lesson takes place as a livestream program that the pupils watch together on a presentation screen in the classroom. In addition to surveys via an online tool, the event includes interactive elements in which the young people become active and work on tasks together. All registered teachers will receive all information and required materials in advance by e-mail. Click here for the registration form.
The Digital School Lesson is designed to be low-threshold in order to provide young people from grade 8 with practical access to the topic. However, the content and tasks are just as interesting and relevant for older young people, which is why higher grades are also welcome to take part in the event. In principle, all interested parties are welcome to attend the digital school lesson.
All registered teachers will receive an e-mail with all the information and the necessary worksheets one week before the event. Please print out the worksheets in advance and either hand them out face down before the start of the event or hand them out at the start of the work phases. The students need a pen to work on the tasks. The tasks are taken from the klicksafe teaching material "Rechts. Extreme. Online - How to empower young people against right-wing extremist influences on the internet".
