Of heretics, frogs and clowns - how to recognize and decode right-wing extremist symbolism

The far right has been appearing on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube in an increasingly professionalized manner for years and has repeatedly managed to strongly influence discourse. In particular, teenagers and young adults are being targeted and sometimes explicitly and sometimes covertly introduced to right-wing ideologies. This is also done by coding content so that it is often not recognizable as right-wing extremist at first glance. Everything the internet has to offer is used. Emojis, memes and number combinations therefore play an important role. The lecture will provide an insight into right-wing codes and their levels of meaning and discuss what can be done to counter this.

Please note that this event is not a platform for extremist views, but rather a critical reflection and discussion on right-wing symbolism and its effects in our society. The organizers reserve the right to exclude people with right-wing extremist or misanthropic attitudes or statements from the event.
