Medien + Bildung RLP has developed a contemporary form of teaching democracy and media skills with the "Democracy Gym" concept.
As part of the seminar "Extracurricular learning locations in Rhineland-Palatinate", prospective politics teachers learn how they themselves can support pupils in taking the first steps towards finding their own stance on socially relevant topics - especially in the digital sphere.
The Democracy Gym offers various stations - analogous to real training stations in the gym - in which topics and situations that young people encounter in both analog and digital space are addressed.
In scenarios close to everyday life, they deal with questions and problems of democratic coexistence, position themselves and reflect on this together.
The digital hands-on stations enable the young people to put the knowledge they have acquired into practice at the same time.
The Democracy Gym includes stations from 5 training areas to strengthen democratic and media skills:
- Our constitution - The Basic Law
- You are a part of it - Actively for democracy
- Rules and respect - How we want to live together
- Dangers to democracy
- Democracy cannot be taken for granted
The event takes place as part of the seminar "Extracurricular learning locations in Rhineland-Palatinate" under the direction of OStR Uwe Franke M.A. of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
