Between chat and emotional closeness - young people interacting with AI chatbots

AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, MyAI on Snapchat or Meta AI on Whatsapp have long been used by young people as more than just tools for learning or entertainment - they can become conversation partners with whom emotional bonds develop. In this free wide-click webinar, we will shed light on how young people interact with AI chatbots, the mechanisms of parasocial relationships and the implications for schools and educational work.

In a keynote speech, guest speaker Fabian Sauer (mecodia Medienkompetenz) will show why young people are particularly susceptible to emotional interactions with chatbots, how parasocial relationships can develop from this and what educational challenges arise as a result. Together, we will discuss how teachers and educational professionals can integrate the topic into their educational work in a reflective manner and sensitize adolescents to a conscious approach to AI.
