Online event Coffee Corner #59 AI and me? Artificial intelligence from an addiction prevention perspective

Everyone is talking about AI, chatbots, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok: rarely has a new technology spread so quickly. Having only gone online at the end of 2022, ChatGPT is now the most popular AI application among young people: according to the JIM Study 2025, 84% of 12-19-year-olds have already used the tool and 50% said they use it daily or several times a week. In a study by the TÜV Association, 53% of adults surveyed stated that they had experience with generative AI; 26% use it intensively. The benefits are clear: AI gives advice, creates or summarizes texts, can be "creative", generate images, complete homework and much more.
But there are also risks. AI regularly spits out false information, artificially generated images and videos are becoming increasingly difficult to identify, chatbots appear to some to be a substitute for a relationship or therapy.
Safer Internet Day 2026 picks up on this with the motto "AI and me. In an artificial relationship". On this occasion, we are offering an online event for professionals as part of our "Coffee Corner" series, in which we want to approach the topic from an addiction prevention perspective. In 1.5 hours, we will give a brief overview of current developments and then discuss the extent to which AI and chatbots are already having an impact on the fields of work and settings in which addiction prevention takes place.
