klicksafe celebrates its anniversaryWorking for a secure Internet for 20 years
Ludwigshafen, 30.09.2024 - The internet is huge, as is the need for protection, education and advice. For 20 years, klicksafe has been actively qualifying and advising parents, schools, clubs, institutions and authorities in the field of media education. This makes klicksafe one of the oldest and most experienced media literacy initiatives in Germany.
From cyberbullying, artificial intelligence and disinformation to topics relating to data protection and privacy on the internet: klicksafe is the first port of call when it comes to media literacy and internet safety. Numerous articles and a wide range of materials are available on the information portal www.klicksafe.de. klicksafe also makes the topics tangible with campaigns and events. For example, klicksafe coordinates the annual Safer Internet Day in Germany.
"We work in a strong national and international network to protect, empower and enable children and young people to participate safely online. After all, online safety is not the task of individual people or institutions, it requires a broad social alliance," explains Deborah Woldemichael, head of the EU initiative.
From the very beginning, klicksafe has led the way in terms of innovation, impact and persuasiveness. As early as 2005, klicksafe sensitized parents and the general public to the issue of Internet safety with the spot "Where is Klaus". The award-winning spot was translated into several languages and broadcast throughout Europe. klicksafe was the first initiative in Germany to raise awareness of cyberbullying in 2005. Together with members of the klicksafe youth advisory board, klicksafe developed the Cyberbullying First Aid app ten years later. The internationally award-winning app is now available in six languages and an easy-to-use version for people with disabilities.
For the broad promotion of media literacy, klicksafe continues to provide media-educationally sound and up-to-date advice and teaching material. To date, klicksafe has sent more than 13 million klicksafe print materials to institutions and individuals throughout Germany.
klicksafe was and is politically and economically independent. The initiative is co-financed by the European Union and in Germany by the Rhineland-Palatinate Media Authority. Dr. Marc Jan Eumann, Director of the Rhineland-Palatinate Media Authority, congratulates klicksafe on its anniversary: "For 20 years, klicksafe has been the media literacy rock in the surf of disinformation, hate speech and other online dangers. Good media education succeeds with klicksafe, which develops tailor-made media literacy offers for children, young people, parents and teachers. I am grateful that the RLP media authority and the EU initiative are continuing to write this success story with nationwide appeal."
