Press release"Let's talk about porn": Safer Internet Day 2024 sets the tone for education about pornography online
Ludwigshafen/Düsseldorf, 23.01.2024
Just one click away from porn: children and young people come into contact with pornographic content online at an early age, even unintentionally and often before they have their own sexual experiences. This year's Safer Internet Day (SID) on February 6 focuses on the education and protection of children and young people under the motto "Let's talk about porn". The SID in Germany is organized by the EU initiative klicksafe, which is coordinated by the Media Authority of Rhineland-Palatinate and implemented together with the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia.
"We should not leave sexuality education to porn websites," emphasizes Deborah Woldemichael, head of the EU initiative klicksafe. She appeals to teachers and legal guardians not to leave young people alone with their online experiences. "When young people deal with pornography in an educational context, it helps them to process the images they have seen, often unintentionally."
Numerous partners across Germany are participating in SID 2024 with a variety of campaigns. klicksafe itself is publishing new materials with help and tips for use in schools and families. At a specialist and press event in Mainz on February 6, the EU initiative will focus on protecting and educating children and young people about pornographic content, sexual violence and digital boundary violations.
Current figures from a representative forsa survey on the topic of pornography will also be published for the SID. The day of action will be accompanied and discussed on social media with the hashtags #SID2024 and #SID24.
