"F***, I'm being blackmailed with naked pictures!"klicksafe and JUUUPORT publish flyer on sextortion with helpful tips on protection

Ludwigshafen/Hanover, January 16, 2025 | The media literacy initiative klicksafe and the advice and education platform JUUUPORT are publishing a new flyer today entitled "F***, I'm being blackmailed with naked pictures! How to protect yourself from sextortion". The new information material is a reaction to the increasing number of cases of sextortion among young people. The flyer can now be downloaded and ordered free of charge from the websites of both organizations.

What to do about sextortion?

Sextortion, a combination of "sex" and "extortion", refers to blackmail with intimate photos or videos. Perpetrators put pressure on victims by threatening to publish these images. The aim is to demand money or - in the context of a relationship - to make other demands (e.g. for more nude photos).

The new flyer from klicksafe and JUUUPORT offers concrete case studies, practical tips for protection against sextortion, recommendations for action for those affected, legal facts and information on contact points for help and advice. It is part of the comprehensive prevention work of both organizations against sexual violence against children and young people on the internet.

Sextortion - an increasing danger

Current surveys such as the JIM Study 2024 (Youth, Information, Media) show that sexual violence against children and young people on the internet is on the rise. A total of 29% - almost a third of the young people surveyed - have already experienced sexual harassment online. The number of unreported cases is estimated to be significantly higher.

Lea Römer, press officer at JUUUPORT, emphasizes: "Sextortion is a growing problem. Our volunteer counselors, the scouts, now receive inquiries from young people seeking advice on this topic almost every day. With this flyer, we want to inform and protect young people. The publication is a response to the current problems faced by many young people."

JUUUPORT scout Greta adds: "Many young people underestimate the risks of sending intimate images. Our flyer shows clearly and comprehensibly what can happen and what to do if you are already affected. But it also clearly shows the perpetrators that they are liable to prosecution if they blackmail others with nudes."

Deborah Woldemichael, Head of klicksafe, underlines the importance of the new information material: "Teachers and other multipliers can use the flyer to educate young people and protect them from sexualized violence. This is becoming increasingly important in light of the fact that nude images can now be created from normal photos of a clothed person using AI software."
