To mark the start of the new school year, the EU initiative klicksafe is raising awareness about cyberbullying through a wide range of resources for teachers, parents, and students.

Ludwigshafen, August 27, 2026 | For many children and teens, the new school year marks the start of a new daily routine: new classes, new friendships, new conflicts. Especially as school begins, it’s worth taking a look at how schools, parents, and teens can recognize these problems early on and respond in a timely manner. During the “Back-to-School” campaign month, klicksafe supports schools and parents with a comprehensive range of up-to-date and practical materials on digital topics and challenges.

“Media literacy is essential; it must not be merely an optional offering. Only in this way can young people navigate the digital world confidently and independently. With klicksafe’s media literacy programs, young people, parents, and teachers receive the support they need for successful media education,”says Dr. Marc Jan Eumann, Director of the Rhineland-Palatinate Media Authority.

Focus on Cyberbullying

During this year’s “Back to School” awareness month, klicksafe is placing a special focus on the issue of cyberbullying. Exclusion, insults, or public humiliation via messaging apps, social media, and class chats can take a significant toll on students and also have a negative impact on their daily school life and the classroom atmosphere.

“Cyberbullying often occurs alongside offline bullying in everyday school life. For those affected, this can mean they have almost no way of escaping the harassment. The pressure extends from the schoolyard all the way to their own homes. This makes it all the more important that we all take responsibility and intervene in a timely manner,”says Deborah Woldemichael, director of the EU initiative klicksafe at the Rhineland-Palatinate Media Authority.

In September, klicksafe will offer educators new teaching guides, resources, and a webinar on the topic of cyberbullying. The goal is to address the issue in educational practice, strengthen prevention efforts, and promote respectful interaction in the classroom. In addition, klicksafe is now publishing its “Parent’s Guide to Cyberbullying” in plain language. In this way, the media literacy initiative is making information and coping strategies accessible to even more families. Throughout September, teachers and parents can also find posts on the topic of cyberbullying on klicksafe’s social media channels.

klicksafe Class on September 17, 2026

The highlight of this year’s “Back-to-School” campaign month is the klicksafe classroom session. Under the motto “Bullied online. Hurt in real life. Together against cyberbullying!”, it will take place on September 17, 2026, this time in cooperation with Aktion Mensch and “Nummer gegen Kummer.” Aktion Mensch ensures inclusive participation in the digital class through supporting materials in plain language as well as live sign language and written interpretation. “Nummer gegen Kummer” contributes its experience from counseling children and adolescents, shows students possible courses of action, and encourages them to seek support.

The nationwide klicksafe lesson is aimed at 5th through 8th-grade classes and offers teachers a practical and accessible teaching resource on the topic of cyberbullying. Starting at 10:00 a.m., registered classes can participate in the 60-minute livestream and then explore the topic in greater depth in class using free accompanying materials.
