International Day against Bullying and Cyberbullying: Setting an example together!

Support for those affected, parents and teachers is offered by the media literacy initiative "klicksafe", the association "Love Always Wins by Lijana Kaggwa" and the "Nummer gegen Kummer".

Ludwigshafen/Wuppertal, 07.11.2024 | Today is the International Day against Bullying and Cyberbullying - an important day of action that draws attention to the urgent problem of bullying and cyberbullying in particular. klicksafe, the Love Always Wins e.V. association and "Nummer gegen Kummer" offer support to those affected, parents and teachers.

Cyberbullying is a growing problem, especially in times of increasing digital networking

The recently published Cyberlife Study shows that 18.5 percent of the children and young people between the ages of seven and 20 surveyed have already been victims of cyberbullying. Compared to the 2022 survey with 16.7%, the number of those affected has increased by almost 2 percentage points. Whereas bullying used to be limited to the physical context of school, it is now normal for children and young people to be confronted with bullying on social networks and via messenger services. This can be particularly stressful because they can hardly escape the attacks.

Set an example: Together against bullying!

On "International Day against Bullying and Cyberbullying", klicksafe, Love Always Wins e.V. and Nummer gegen Kummer are jointly calling for people to take a stand against bullying. It is important that those affected know that they are not alone - there is help available to them at any time.

klicksafe offers comprehensive information, materials and tips for parents, teachers and young people. The focus is on approaches to preventing and intervening in cyberbullying. To this end, klicksafe published the Cyberbullying First Aid app for young people in 2017 and the Cyberbullying Easy Help app this year. Both apps have already won awards. They were co-developed by young people (2017) and people with disabilities (2024). In addition to the posters and flyers for the apps, klicksafe has many other materials and practical guides for those affected, parents and teachers under the keyword cyberbullying.

"Our task is to provide young people with the information and emotional tools they need to protect themselves from cyberbullying. We show them and their caregivers ways in which they can actively defend themselves and deal with cyberbullying," explains Deborah Woldemichael, Head of the EU initiative klicksafe at the Rhineland-Palatinate Media Authority.

The Number against grief offers confidential and anonymous advice for children, young people and parents - including on the subject of cyberbullying. Those affected can contact trained advisors by phone or online, who are there to help them in stressful situations.

The association Love Always Wins e.V. is primarily involved in education and prevention measures to empower and encourage young people to actively combat bullying. The special focus here is on the perspective of a victim, as the chairwoman of the association, Lijana Kaggwa, suffered from severe cyberbullying herself.
