Berlin/Cologne/Ludwigshafen/Mainz/Wuppertal, February 06, 2023| February 07, 2023 is once again Safer Internet Day, the international day of action for more security on the Internet. Numerous events and activities, both online and offline, will once again focus on the opportunities and risks of today's digitized world - and on the question of how we can work together to make tomorrow's Internet a little bit better.
Safer Internet Network DE: Six partners, one goal
Together for a better Internet - the international motto of Safer Internet Day 2023 also describes the goal of the cooperation between the six partners in the Safer Internet DE association(www.saferinternet.de). On the occasion of the day of action, the partners provide information about their support services in the areas of INFORMATION - ADVISORY - REPORTING: the media competence initiative klicksafe provides important information about the possibilities and dangers of Internet use, the Nummer gegen Kummer (number against sor row) supports children, young people and parents seeking advice on the phone or online with advice on "web worries" and the reporting centers of jugendschutz.net and the Internet-Beschwerdestelle.de (jointly implemented by eco - Verband der Internetwirtschaft e.V. and FSM - Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Multimedia-Diensteanbieter e.V.) offer users the opportunity to report problematic online content - even anonymously. "For us in the association, every day is Safer Internet Day," the partners agree, "because our offerings provide important tools for using digital opportunities as carefree as possible as well as for dealing competently with dangers in today's digital world."
Participation welcome
Traditionally, klicksafe initiates and coordinates Safer Internet Day (SID) activities in Germany and this year focuses on the theme "#OnlineAmLimit - your net. your life. your limits." On Safer Internet Day, all interested parties are cordially invited to follow the diverse information online, for example, under the hashtags #SaferInternetDay, #SID2023 or #OnlineAmLimit , to like and share posts or to create their own posts and thus help to raise awareness for topics related to a better Internet.

Digital Detox Box, parent flyers, videos and much more: The newly developed materials for use in school lessons, extracurricular youth work and in the family raise awareness among adults, children and young people for a mindful approach to digital media. Practical tips help to strengthen digital resilience. Other opportunities for participation include the profile picture generator and the social media participation campaign.

The eco complaints office, the Cologne police, and the state prevention office against violence and cyber violence in schools in North Rhine-Westphalia are jointly organizing an online workshop on February 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. entitled: "Growing up and living well networked - stumbling blocks and support wheels in the digital space".
The workshop is aimed in particular at older young people, parents, teachers, educators and interested Internet users. The workshop will address the use and significance of digital media for children and young people, as well as the questions of when legal limits are reached and what limits parents and young users can sensibly set themselves. Registration is possible online until the start of the event.
FSM
The FSM is offering a virtual parents' evening entitled "Online safety for children and young people through technical youth media protection" on 07.02 from 17:00 to 18:00 via the Elternguide.online service. Here, parents can ask their questions live to media educators and receive valuable tips on the topic of technical youth media protection. Further information is available online.
In addition, a specialist event will take place on February 15, at which the results of the Youth Media Protection Index 2022 will be presented and discussed. The event will take place from 13:00 to 16:30 at ALEX Berlin and will also be livestreamed. Further information and the possibility to register is available online.

For this year's Safer Internet Day, jugendschutz.net focuses on the topic of "dark patterns". These are manipulative mechanisms that are also used in free game apps ("Free2Play apps"), among other things. jugendschutz.net provides information on how they work and what potential dangers lurk for children. Nummer gegen Kummer actively supports Safer Internet Day on February 7 via its social media channels and focuses on the topic #OnlineAmLimit. In addition, the association is taking part in the online workshop of the eco complaints office, where it will provide insights into its work as an established helpline and advice on "web worries".

About Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day (SID) is a global day of action for more online safety and a better Internet for children and young people. Since 2004, it has always taken place on the Tuesday of the second week in February and each year sets a new thematic focus as part of the international motto "Together for a better internet". In Germany, Safer Internet Day is coordinated by the EU initiative klicksafe.

The Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Multimedia-Diensteanbieter (FSM e.V.) is a recognized self-regulatory body for the telemedia sector. The association is significantly involved in the protection of minors in the media - especially in combating illegal content in online media that is harmful to minors and their development. To this end, the FSM operates a complaints office that anyone can contact free of charge to report online content that is harmful to minors. Extensive educational work and media literacy promotion for children, young people and adults are among the FSM's other tasks.

jugendschutz.net acts as the joint competence center of the federal and state governments for the protection of children and young people on the Internet. The center researches dangers and risks in youth-related services. It works to ensure that violations of youth protection regulations are eliminated and that offerings are designed in such a way that children and young people can use them without worry.
jugendschutz.net was founded in 1997 by the youth ministries of the federal states. Since 2003, the agency has been linked to the Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media (KJM) and is financed by the supreme state youth authorities, the state media authorities and funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
