Safer Internet Day on 10.02.2026 met with a great response throughout Germany: more than 1000 schools, associations, libraries, companies and initiatives got involved with their own campaigns and events. The high level of participation underlines the broad social commitment to media literacy and the responsible use of digital technologies. The klicksafe school lesson is once again particularly popular, with over 50,000 young people taking part on the day. Safer Internet Day has been coordinated in Germany by the EU initiative klicksafe for more than 20 years.

The Federal Agency for the Protection of Children and Young People in the Media (BzKJ) and klicksafe are intensifying their cooperation: From January 2026, the partnership will be placed on a new basis, financially supported by the BzKJ. The aim of the cooperation is to strengthen guidance for parents, educational professionals and children and young people in the digital space and to provide them with effective support on digital issues.

The award-winning spot "Where is Klaus?" by klicksafe has lost none of its relevance over the past 20 years. In the anniversary campaign, children and young people themselves say what goes wrong online!

Cyberbullying remains at a high level among young people aged between 14 and 17. Many of those affected remain without help. The #SagtNichtNichts initiative by Aktion Mensch and "Nummer gegen Kummer" is breaking the silence about bullying. The occasion is the International Day against Bullying and Cyberbullying, on which klicksafe and "Nummer gegen Kummer" offer support for those affected, teachers and parents.

The EU initiative klicksafe is calling for nationwide participation in Safer Internet Day 2026 on February 10.Generative AI bots have long been part of our everyday digital lives, whether as chatbots in social media or as special companion apps such as "Character.AI". They explain, advise in difficult situations and even offer emotional support. But what influence do these AI companions have on our interpersonal relationships and communication? What opportunities and risks arise when people develop bonds with AI companions? klicksafe is addressing these questions with the focus topic "AI and me. In an artificial relationship." on Safer Internet Day. The international day of action is coordinated by klicksafe in Germany.

AI applications and deepfakes have become an indelible part of our everyday lives. This year's "Back to School" campaign by klicksafe therefore aims to empower young people, parents and educational professionals in dealing with AI and deepfakes. The campaign runs throughout September and offers new materials and tips for educational practice. The highlight will be the klicksafe school lesson on October 1, which can be streamed by schools nationwide. School classes can register for the digital event now.

The Digital School Lesson, which can now be streamed directly from schools into classrooms, is brand new and a complete success: Over 25,000 young people learn how to recognize extremist fakes and what they can do about them. Safer Internet Day has been organized in Germany for more than 20 years by the EU initiative klicksafe.

Support for those affected, parents and teachers is offered by the media literacy initiative "klicksafe", the association "Love Always Wins by Lijana Kaggwa" and the "Nummer gegen Kummer".

The EU initiative klicksafe is calling on people across Germany to take part in Safer Internet Day 2025 on February 11. Disinformation and hateful online content are flooding social networks. They challenge our judgment and our democratic values. What skills do young people in particular need to critically classify manipulative social media content? With the focus topic "No likes for lies! Recognize extremism, populism and deepfakes online", klicksafe is focusing on education and empowerment on Safer Internet Day 2025. The international day of action is coordinated by klicksafe in Germany.

The EU initiative klicksafe began its work in Germany on October 1, 2004. The initiative has thus been working for 20 years to promote greater Internet safety through media literacy. The focus is on protecting and empowering children and young people online, educating parents and educational professionals about online risks and training them with advice and teaching materials on how to use digital media confidently and critically.

klicksafe is supporting parents and teachers with new advice and teaching materials for the 2024 school year. The information package for the start of school includes tips on age-appropriate and safe media use, how to deal with digital sexual violence and how to deal confidently with fakes, scams and cybercrime.

klicksafe, together with ZDF and the Rhineland-Palatinate consumer advice center, receives the coveted EduMedia medal and seal at the prestigious Comenius EduMedia Awards. The award went to the "Young Crime" format with the episode "Abzocke im Netz" including the accompanying klicksafe teaching material. In the ZDFtivi format, fictionalized cases of youth crime are re-enacted and judged by a jury of young people.
