Webinar recordingHow can parents protect their child from cybergrooming?

Children and young people are at risk of experiencing sexualized violence online. A recent survey shows that a quarter of all children and young people in Germany are affected by cybergrooming - many of those affected are under the age of 14. In an online parents' evening, klicksafe was able to educate parents and guardians on the topic of cybergrooming. The recording is now available to anyone interested.

Children and young people who are online on social media platforms or in online games also come into contact with people they don't know. It can happen that behind nice chat conversations, compliments and attention, there is actually an interest in preparing for sexual abuse. This initiation of contact with sexual intentions is known as cybergrooming. The perpetrators want to get the adolescents to send intimate recordings, perform sexual acts in front of the camera or even arrange meetings in person.

An annual survey by the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia shows that a quarter of all children and young people in Germany have already experienced cybergrooming in 2025. Every sixth person affected was under the age of 14. This means that the number of people affected remains high compared to previous years. The majority of children and young people surveyed would like to see better education on the subject of cybergrooming.

Online parents' evening on the topic of cybergrooming

Many children affected by cybergrooming do not dare to seek help. If they do talk about cybergrooming, parents are the people they are most likely to trust. For this reason, it is important for parents and guardians to addressthe issue at an early stage and educate their children. The online parents' evening "And then he wanted nude photos": How can I protect my child from cybergrooming?" with 300 participants showed just how much interest there is in this topic. In cooperation with the Network Coordination for Child Protection / Early Help of the district of Mainz-Bingen, klicksafe was able to inform parents about cybergrooming and provide important tips on how to protect children and help them deal with cybergrooming.
