Using smartphones with confidence: How to stay in control in the cell phone jungle
The smartphone is an integral part of everyday life for young people in Germany. In 2016, 95 percent of young people between the ages of 12 and 19 owned such a device . But using it properly is not something that comes naturally. Just as children learn from parents and other role models how the road works, what rules apply and how to move around safely, they also need experienced role models for the digital world. The new brochure helps adults equip themselves for this task.
In five chapters ( ), the brochure deals with topics that are especially relevant for young users, such as cell phone addiction, cyberbullying, pornography consumption, hatred and depiction of violence on cell phones, data security, cost traps, theft, and invasion of privacy through apps.
Based on
current figures and studies, the brochure answers the questions: How big are the problems really? Who is affected? Where do legal boundaries run? It also includes tips, exercises and practical checklists, e.g. "What to do if my cell phone is stolen?", references to contacts and further information.
The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection and supported by the Stiftung Berliner Sparkasse - by citizens and Citizens for Berlin.
