Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of InformationNew teaching material on data protection for grades 4 to 7

Whether in class chats, on social media or when searching for information - children leave data traces, just like adults. Because media literacy begins with an understanding of one's own data, the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) is now providing free, age-appropriate materials for grades 4 to 7 in the new "What is data protection?" series of lessons.

The "What is data protection?" series of lessons was developed in collaboration with Carlsen Verlag and builds on the well-known world of the popular Pixi books from the BfDI. The aim is to convey key issues relating to personal data, privacy, search engines, secure passwords, informational self-determination, social media and cyberbullying in a child-friendly, practical and real-world-oriented way.

The series is suitable for use in science lessons, politics lessons, media education as well as for project weeks, interdisciplinary units or substitute lessons. Teachers receive directly usable worksheets and didactic notes with solutions. The materials can be used both digitally and printed out in the classroom.

The lesson series consists of six episodes that can be used individually or in sequence:
