Young Crime - Classroom JudgmentNew teaching material on rip-offs on the Net
"Young Crime" - ZDF's true crime format for children and young people - is entering its second season. What are typical juvenile crimes and how are they tried in court? What are the stories behind the crimes? How do the victims fare? In each episode, a true case of juvenile delinquency is re-enacted in fictionalized scenes, slightly altered. Among other things, it's about fraud on the Internet, theft, racist assaults, drug abuse, assault and threats.
In the studio, presenter Chinedu Melcher discusses the cases with young people aged between 13 and 17. They contribute their different experiences, opinions and values. In the course of the discussion, they receive more and more information about what happened. They evaluate the acts, empathize with the victims and finally come to their own judgment. A female juvenile court judge provides legal classification, supports the discussion group with expert knowledge and explains the work of the courts. The format is aimed primarily at the older target group of 10- to 13-year-olds. "Young Crime" deals with the big issue of justice and asks young people how we want to live and treat each other.
Teaching material on "Rip-offs on the Net
The klicksafe teaching unit on the episode "Rip-offs on the Net" deals with a case of sales fraud by a young person. In this unit, the students receive information about fake stores and learn about protective measures in the form of a checklist. At the end, the young people's decisions in the classroom about a possible sentence are compared and analyzed with the assessment of the young experts and the juvenile judge in the studio. The real sentence is shown at the end of the video.
The material was produced in cooperation with ZDF and the Rhineland-Palatinate Consumer Center. It is suitable for use in grades 5 and up, and takes about 1-2 school hours to complete.
