Digital heroesMentoring program starts for the new school year

With its mentoring program, the "Digital Heroes" project offers a low-threshold opportunity to bring media skills into schools. Schools can now register for the 2025/26 school year. Registration is free of charge for all German-speaking schools. Participants do not need to have any prior expertise in the field of media education. The mentoring program also offers extensive and interactive teaching material with videos, exercises, tasks, work materials and games.

It is often said that young people need to learn how to navigate the digital space safely and responsibly. As understandable and correct as this demand for important present and future skills is, the problem is also well-known: media education is still not established across the board in schools. Yet there are enough committed teachers who would like to tackle this topic. However, there is often a lack of time and the necessary structure to anchor the subject in the timetable.

This is precisely where the peer-to-peer approach of theDigital Heroesmentoring program provides relief. The core of the program, which has been established for many years and was revised last year, is that pupils become multipliers for topics such as cyberbullying, hate speech, social media and many other areas of the media world. They then pass on their knowledge to younger classes. This not only teaches media skills, but also social skills.

Thanks to financial support, Digital Heroes will be able to offer the mentoring program free of charge and nationwide for schools in the 2025/26 school year.

What are the benefits of the mentoring program?

  • The provision of media education can focus on anchoring it in the timetable and motivating pupils.
  • An important contribution to equal opportunities is created by removing financial barriers.
  • More schools nationwide (and beyond) can take up the offer and make an impact.
