"Don't push the thought away!"Campaign launched to rethink sexual violence against children
For years, thousands of cases of child sexual abuse have been reported to the police. But this is only the bright field of the police, the dark field is much larger. It is estimated that 1 to 2 children per school class are affected by sexual violence - in around three quarters of cases, this happens in the child 's own family or close social environment. However, most people largely suppress this real risk in their own environment: 90% of the population believe it is likely that sexual violence occurs primarily in families. However, 85% consider it unlikely or impossible that sexual violence happens or can happen in their own family, according to the results of a FORSA survey commissioned by the Independent Representative.
With contrasting, irritating statements like, "Don't go with strangers! - What if it's not a stranger at all?" or "Don't open the door for anyone! - What if the danger is already inside?" the campaign challenges familiar patterns of thinking and points out the real danger of sexual violence in personal environments. The goal is to empower people to take action if they suspect child sexual abuse.
"Don't push the thought away!" is designed as a multi-year campaign. In addition to a variety of information materials, the campaign strengthens local networks and community initiatives and supports them with a campaign office. Through the cooperation of professional practice, politics and civil society, sustainable alliances on the ground are to be achieved to protect children and young people from sexual violence. The National Council against Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents is also an important partner that supports the campaign and the nationwide and local activation measures.
