Together against sexual exploitation of children on the net
On the occasion of the European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse on November 18 ("European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse "), the German complaint bodies of FSM (Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Multimedia-Diensteanbieter e.V.), eco (Verband der Internetwirtschaft e.V.) and jugendschutz.net inform about the spread of depictions of sexualized violence online and their cooperation on national and international level.
In 2017, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the German complaints offices took action against around 6000 web offerings with depictions of abuse of children. Over 90% of these were reported to the German complaints offices(source: BMJV, report "Löschen statt sperren Stand:24.08.2018).
Regarding cooperation, the BKA says: "The Federal Criminal Police Office has been working closely and in a spirit of trust with the complaints offices for many years. Together, we want to ban depictions of child sexual abuse from the net. In a memorandum of understanding, we have set down our common goals in order to join forces. Although our tasks differ, we always pull together and work side by side in the fight against the abuse of children and the dissemination of abuse files on the Internet."
The German complaint bodies of FSM, eco and jugendschutz.net regularly get involved with various campaigns as part of the European Day of Action. This year, a jointly produced Video takes a look at cooperation in the fight against child abuse depictions. The video will be shared across various social media channels and calls on Internet users to report relevant content.
The "European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse" was initiated by the Council of Europe in 2015 and appeals to people and institutions in European member states to take action on and offline against the sexual exploitation of children. Interested parties who would like to support the day with their own actions can find all information at a glance here.
FSM, eco and jugendschutz.net are partners of the German Safer Internet Center(saferinternet.de), which is financially supported by the European Union within the Connecting Europe Facility. The German Safer Internet Center also includes klicksafe and the anonymous counseling services of "Nummer gegen Kummer".
In addition, the complaints offices are involved in the international complaints network INHOPE.
